Depraved Society

I heard the most depraved thing this morning on the radio. They were talking about a website where you can go and sign up for it to say prayers for you. It basically provides an opportunity to outsource your responsibility to pray. It made me really mad and sad at the same time. That's such a giant red waving flag about how many lost and really confused people there are right here in America.

Two things come to mind:

Stuck In My Head

I read so much stuff. I really appreciate clever things people say. I think sometimes I'm geniously clever in my head. I want so much to write it down and make something out of it. When I do manage to put something on paper it becomes something a lot like trying to make a human out of Playdoh. It loses almost everything in translation. It's always such a train wreck. Nevertheless, I continue to make an effort.

The Simple Life

I've just endured my busy season. This week has been glorious in the fact that I can just be. It's amazing to me how a particularly busy few months can make what was once thought busy (life with children) actually very simple. My oldest and I played a marathon game of Uno a couple nights ago. Before Uno I had time to sit and read for a while with my youngest. In the words of my friend Billy, now that's what I call clean livin'.

Intrigued

I can't help but be intrigued by people. I feel like I was very sheltered from "the world". I'm grateful because that kept me from experiencing/being exposed to a lot of things that could have been very damaging. Now though I'm intrigued by watching people experience those things I was sheltered from. It's hard to watch but it's very interesting.

An Intro

The title should say it all. I tend to operate as if stuck in high school geometry. Everything works as part of a giant "if-then". When I was younger that was especially true. At some point someone advised me to stop torturing myself that way and just live. That was good advice for me at the time. I've come to realize lately, though, that a lot of my creativity is derived from the ability to look at things from the "if-then" perspective. I want that back. I can't say with certainty that I will post a lot of stuff. I'm merely creating essentially an opportunity for creative randomness in the form of this blog.
